Location
All intensive classes are held at:
Chapman University Partridge Dance Center
190 N. Cypress Street
Orange, CA 92866
(On the corner of Cypress St. and Maple Ave.)
DAY ONE
PARKING
OCTA and the City of Orange teamed up to construct a brand new, shared-use multi-story parking structure. Now open for public use, the parking structure is located at the northwest corner of Lemon Street and Chapman Avenue. There are several dedicated parking spaces with electric car charging ports (Chargepoint fee applicable). See map below for structure location.
In addition, you may find non-metered street parking along Cypress St. and Maple Ave. Read the city signs carefully as many streets require a city permit.
ARRIVAL & CHECK IN
On your first day, arrive to the Partridge Dance Center 30-45 minutes before classes begin. This will provide you ample time to find parking, check in at our registration table, tour the facilities and get ready for the first class of the day. Registration for newly arriving students begins at 8:45am every Monday.
WHAT TO BRING
Each day of the intensive includes an average of eight hours of technique class and/or rehearsal. To ensure a healthy and productive experience, come prepared with the following items:
a pair of socks for each day
kneepads (optional for modern floorwork)
ballet shoes
a yoga mat (for Pilates and Yoga classes)
plenty of water and healthy snacks to keep you energized and strong during class
a sack lunch or money to purchase lunch at a local eatery
LUNCH BREAK
Participants are given a 1-hour lunch break daily from noon to 1pm. Dancers may bring a sack lunch. There is a refrigerator and microwave on site. A map of local eateries will be provided for those wishing to purchase lunch off campus.
PT CLINIC
Students will have access to physical therapy services on an as needed basis during the Intensive. These services are available at no cost to participants. Unlike some states, California does not require a referral for physical therapy from a licensed medical professional prior to treatment. However, Backhausdance requires a completed “Informed Consent and Waiver” and "Acknowledgement of Direct PT Services" form prior to providing physical therapy services. In order to sign up for services, a student must have a signed consent form on file. If a student is interested in scheduling a physical therapy session, they should contact the BD Student Liaison. Clinic hours are limited and vary week-to-week. Space is limited and will be prioritized based on severity of injury.
Signed forms may be printed and hand-delivered or emailed prior to receiving physical therapy services to summerintensive@backhausdance.org
