The #BDAmbassador Program is designed to recognize passionate, talented and artistically-driven dancers who actively support and partner with BD in its mission to expose and educate the community about the relevance and vitality of concert dance. Harnessing the power of social media and word-of-mouth, BD and its Ambassadors will work together to build excitement, spread the word and help raise awareness of upcoming Backhausdance performances and events.
ROLE OF A #bdAMBASSADOR

My name is Chandler Davids and I am a freshman at California State University, Fullerton majoring in dance. I've been training and competing with Dance Creations since I was 6 years old. I am very fortunate to have grown up in such an artistic and supportive studio. Over the years, Dance Creations has taught the importance of individuality and teamwork. I was a member of Dance Creation's piece "Heroes" which won the 2016 19th Annual Choreography Festival award at The McCallum Theatre. I hope to someday join a professional dance company to perform and travel around the world. I have participated in Hubbard Street Dance's Summer Intensive for one year and the Backhausdance Summer Intensive for three years. Each year I have attended the BD Intensive, I leave feeling inspired and motivated to keep pushing myself as a dancer. Backhausdance has played a major role in my life by helping me grow into the dancer I am today. I can't thank BD enough for what they have taught me and I'm excited for the 2017 Backhausdance Summer Intensive.

My name is Shelby Patterson. I am 17 years old and I have been dancing since the age of 2. I currently dance in a pre-professional contemporary company Westside Dance Project and train at Dmitri Kulev Classical Ballet Academy. I also attend Orange County School of the Arts in the Commercial Dance Conservatory. I aspire to become a professional dancer and continue sharing my passion for dance in any way that I can. A dream of mine is to be a part of a professional company and travel and train under great names. Backhausdance has played a major role in my dance career, from giving me great opportunities, giving me amazing insight about the dance world, and allowing me to grow as a dancer. I have attended the BD intensives for three summers now and I always leave so inspired and fueled to continue dancing with all the new knowledge and information they have shared with me. I'm thankful to be involved with BD and for everything Jenny and the other company members have taught me so far.

ʻO Shaylee Yamashita koʻu inoa, a noho au ma Maui, Hawaiʻi. My name is Shaylee Yamashita, and I am from Maui, Hawaiʻi. I have been training in all styles for 10 years. My most notable achievement includes being selected as a 2017 YoungArts Finalist in Dance/Choreography, allowing me to attend YoungArts Week in Miami. I one day hope to become a choreographer touring with a convention, allowing me to share my art and passion with students just as hungry as I am. The biggest inspiration for my art is my culture. Being kanaka maoli, my history and my people move me to create new art. I cannot thank Backhausdance enough for giving me this incredible opportunity. Backhausdance is truly my favorite intensive out there. I attended the BD summer intensive last year and I cannot express how it has changed me as a dancer and as person. Mahalo nui loa for everything, and I cannot wait for this summer.
