(Jan. 14, 2010) – Orange County’s popular Backhausdance company will be featured during “Backhausdance at Bluewater,” a special Jan. 30, 2010, public evening at Bluewater Grill in Tustin designed to help the emerging, Orange, Calif.-based nonprofit dance company continue its work promoting the relevance and vitality of concert dance in local schools, theaters and other community venues.
Comprised of 11 professional dancers, many of whom are graduates of Chapman University in Orange, Backhausdance offers an eclectic and dynamic movement vocabulary. Company performances are physically demanding and original, with a noticeable sense of fluidity and strength. The eight-year-old company’s performances and participation in arts education programs at such venues as the Orange County Performing Arts Center and the Laguna Dance Festival has propelled it to the forefront of Southern California modern dance.
In addition to allowing Backhausdance to continue its local performance and arts education work, this special event will help the company fund a March 5-6, 2010, New York debut at theINBOUND Festival at Joyce SoHo. Backhausdance is one of only seven professional dance companies in the United States selected by Joyce SoHo for this prestigious honor.
“Backhausdance at Bluewater” will combine scheduled and impromptu performances by Backhausdance dancers with hosted signature Bluewater Grill appetizers, wine and cocktails. An opportunity drawing for a prize generously donated by Black, Starr & Frost is included in the cost of admission.

About Backhausdance
Artistic Director Jennifer Backhaus formed Backhausdance in January of 2003. The company is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit corporation with the mission to create excellent art and expose and educate the community about the relevance and vitality of concert dance. Now in its eighth year, Backhausdance has performed extensively throughout California at venues and festivals including Fall for Dance at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, Laguna Dance Festival, the Los Angeles Arts Holiday Celebration held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, and the Celebrate Dance Festival at the Alex Theatre.
