Jennifer Backhaus / Artistic Director
Ms. Backhaus is currently on the dance faculty at Chapman University. She is a certified Pilates instructor and teaches modern dance technique and dance conditioning. She is also a teaching artist for the Segerstrom Center for the Arts' (formerly Orange County Performing Arts Center) Education Programs where she shares her love for dance and choreography with local students.

Kim Olmos / Rehearsal Assistant & Ballet Mistress
Ms. Olmos spent five seasons as a company member with the former Ballet Pacifica, where she performed in ballets by Peter Pucci, Ann Marie De Angelo, Choo-San Goh, Lynne Taylor-Corbett and Molly Lynch. She was also a faculty member and the school's Registrar at the former Ballet Pacifica Conservatory where she taught ballet and modern and choreographed for the conservatory. Ms. Olmos was formerly the associate director of a pre-professional dance studio in Mission Viejo and Co-Artistic Director of B-2, a pre-professional dance company.

Amanda Kay White / Founding Company Member
Amanda has been a faculty member at Chapman University since 2005 and MV Dance & Performing Arts Center since 2002. Along with teaching at MVDPAC, she also directs their national award winning dance team and COMPASS DANCE founded in 2009. Compass Dance is a pre-professional dance company for young dancers ages 14-18. At the current number of 11 dancers, Compass Dance prepares young dancers for the real world with a "concert dance" experience. She was also recently appointed Education Director for the Dance Discovery Foundation.

Jenn Bassage Bonfil / Founding Company Member
Jenn Bassage Bonfil, originally from Washington State, has been a member of Backhausdance since its inception in January of 2003. She earned her BFA in Dance Performance from Chapman University, and her comprehensive pilates certification from Body Arts and Science International. She has been on faculty at Chapman University and California State University, Long Beach. Currently, Jenn teaches ballet and modern at The Wooden Floor, previously known as Saint Joseph Ballet, and pilates at FineForm Pilates in Newport Beach.

Tawny Chapman / Company Member
Tawny Chapman is currently in her seventh season as a company member with Backhausdance. Tawny has taught all levels of jazz, lyrical, modern and ballet to students ranging from six to adult since the year 2000. She is on faculty at Impact Dance Center (Los Alamitos), Pacific Coast Academy of Dance (Mission Viejo), and the Orange County High School of the Arts where she teaches modern dance in the Commercial Dance conservatory program. Tawny also directs the dance program at Crystal Cathedral High School and Middle School in Garden Grove. Along with teaching, Tawny directs and choreographs repertory works for Leverage Dance, her own pre-professional company geared toward dancers ages 17 to 22 and founded in 2009.

Kathy Lawson / Company Apprentice
Kathy Lawson has trained in many styles of dance including Modern, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Swing and Musical Theater. Kathy received her Bachelor of the Arts in Dance from California State University, Fullerton graduating with highest honors. While receiving her education, she performed with Fullerton’s Dance Repertoire Company and performed in many dance concerts working with such artists as Viktor Kabaniev, Rob Kitsos, Roxanne D’Orleans Juste, Risa Steinberg, Marie de la Palme and many more. In addition to performing at ACDFA at the regional festival, Kathy also performed at the National Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Tobi Becerra
Tobi was a professional dancer at the age of 11 and earned a BFA in Dance & Theatre from Chapman University and her yoga teacher training certification through CNY under Erika Faith and Mackenzie MacSween. She began practicing yoga as part of her dance training at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in New York . After her dance career ended she discovered that yoga was the healing practice that her body and spirit needed to recover from the physical trauma associated with dance. She is currently a lecturer for the Cloud Nine Yoga Teacher Training Program.
