In addition to company class in the mornings, Backhausdance directors, company members and apprentices are teaching regularly in the Southern California area. Take a look at the schedule below to find a class that will fit into your weekly schedule and current dance training level.
Jennifer Backhaus / Artistic Director
Ms. Backhaus is currently on the dance faculty at Chapman University. She is a certified Pilates instructor and teaches modern dance technique and dance conditioning. She is also a teaching artist for the Segerstrom Center for the Arts' (formerly Orange County Performing Arts Center) Education Programs where she shares her love for dance and choreography with local students.
Kim Olmos / Rehearsal Assistant & Ballet Mistress
Kimberly Olmos was born in El Paso, TX and began her studies in Torrance, CA with Diane Lauridsen. Kimberly studied with Gloria Newman, Gus Soloman and Rebecca Wright while earning her B.A. in Dance from California State University, Long Beach. She retired from Ballet Pacifica in 1994, where she had performed ballets by Peter Pucci, Anne Marie DeAngelo, Choo-San Goh, Lynn Taylor-Corbett, Jacques Heim and Molly Lynch. Kimberly was on the conservatory faculty for 8 years and assumed the position of Ballet Pacific Conservatory Registrar in 2004. Kimberly is currently on the faculty at the Maple Conservatory of Dance in Irvine and the Director of Student Management. Kimberly lives in Mission Viejo with her husband James and three sons, Evan, Kyle and Jordan.

Amanda Kay White / Founding Company Member
Amanda has been a faculty member at Chapman University since 2005 and MV Dance & Performing Arts Center since 2002. Along with teaching at MVDPAC, she also directs their national award winning dance team and COMPASS DANCE founded in 2009. Compass Dance is a pre-professional dance company for young dancers ages 14-18. At the current number of 11 dancers, Compass Dance prepares young dancers for the real world with a "concert dance" experience. She was also recently appointed Education Director for the Dance Discovery Foundation.

Tawny Chapman / Company Member
Tawny Chapman, originally from Southern California, has worked for more than a decade as an accomplished performer, innovative choreographer and influential educator. Currently performing in her ninth season as a veteran dancer with Orange County’s critically-acclaimed Backhausdance, Tawny is a graduate of Chapman University with a BFA in Dance Performance and an alumna of the Orange County School of the Arts’ Commercial Dance program. She is currently on faculty at Impact Dance Center (Los Alamitos) and the Orange County School of the Arts’ Commercial Dance conservatory program. In addition to performing and teaching, Tawny serves as the resident choreographer and Artistic Director of Leverage Dance, a pre-professional company for dancers ages 14 to 22. Her award-winning works have been performed at Pasadena Dance Festival, Backhausdance’s Platform, Encore Dance Festival, Studio A Dance’s DanceSpot, Hart Pulse Dance’s MixMatch Dance Festival, The Core Collective, and beyond.

Kathy Lawson / Company Apprentice
Kathy Lawson has trained in many styles of dance including Modern, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Hip Hop, Swing and Musical Theater. Kathy received her Bachelor of the Arts in Dance from California State University, Fullerton graduating with highest honors. While receiving her education, she performed with Fullerton’s Dance Repertoire Company and performed in many dance concerts working with such artists as Viktor Kabaniev, Rob Kitsos, Roxanne D’Orleans Juste, Risa Steinberg, Marie de la Palme and many more. In addition to performing at ACDFA at the regional festival, Kathy also performed at the National Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
