Below you will find everything you need to know about registering and participating in the annual Backhausdance Summer Intensive. Please read everything carefully and follow all instructions. We can't wait to dance with you this summer!
I. Intensive Requirements
Attendees must be at least 16 years old and at an intermediate to advanced level of dance with a strong background in ballet and contemporary dance.
II. Online Registration Form
Please complete and submit the registration form. Be thorough in the description of your dance background (ie: studios/schools, instructors, years of training, etc). After submission, you will then receive a confirmation email. You will also receive an electronic packet with additional details pertaining to the classes, faculty biographies, recommended attire, evening activities and the Deconstructed performances. This packet will be sent out no later than June 1st.
III. Tuition Information
Tuition is $700 for two weeks and $400 for one week, plus a $50 registration fee*. To get the most out of the Backhausdance Summer Intensive experience, we highly recommend participation in both weeks. Students participating in only one week will not be included in the Deconstructed performance.
A non-refundable $150 deposit plus $50 registration fee (*see below) is due with your online registration. The balance of the tuition is due July 1st, 2013. If you can make your full payment by May 1st, the initial $50 registration fee will be credited to your tuition balance. This amounts to a discount of $50 for earlybird tuition payment if paid in full by May 1st, 2013.
IV. *Registration Fee
A non-refundable $50 processing fee will be charged upon initial registration. This registration fee will be credited to the student's tuition if the balance is paid in full by May 1st, 2013. After May 1st, this registration fee in non-refundable and will not credit toward the tuition balance.
V. Pay Deposit & Registration Fee on PayPal
Please submit the non-refundable deposit ($150) and registration fee ($50) by clicking the registration payment link to the right after filling out the registration form. This enables us to secure your place in the intensive. Please note that your application will not be valid until you pay your deposit and registration fee.
VI. Housing Information
If you are an out-of-town student and looking for a place to stay during the intensive, click here to see local hotel options. We currently do not provide chaperoned housing options. Local hotels require individuals under the age of 18 to be accompanied by an adult.
VII. When and Where
July 22 - August 3, 2013

Classes will be held Monday - Friday 9:30am - 3:30pm.
Rehearsals for Deconstructed are 3:30pm-5:00pm daily. *Subject to change.
VIII. Deconstructed
August 2 & 3, 2013 at 7:30 pm
Chapman University, Orange CA
Ticket prices are $15 for general admission and will be available at www.backhausdance.org beginning July 1. The box office opens one hour prior to the performance.
Technical rehearsals and call times for performers will be addressed in the electronic information packet received prior to the start of the intensive.
IX. Scholarship Audition
Backhausdance grants scholarships to the intensive based on talent and need. If you would like to be considered, you must attend the Scholarship Audition or submit an audition video (*see below).

CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY PARTRIDGE DANCE CENTER

The audition will consist of a contemporary ballet barré and modern center work. Dancers should bring ballet shoes and/or socks for center phrase work. Upon arrival, all auditionees will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire and liability waiver. Download the form now.
X. *Video Scholarship Audition
Video auditions will be considered for students unable to attend the scholarship audition. Footage must be between 3 and 5 minutes long and include the following:
1. Brief Self-Introduction: Name, Brief Description of Previous Training
2. Technique Samples: Barre or Center Work (Plies, Tendus, Extensions, Across the Floor Progressions of Turns and/or Jumps, etc)
3. Phrasework Sample(s): Variations, Improvisations and/or Choreography
Video submissions must be received no later than May 31st. Please submit a video link (YouTube, Vimeo, etc) to summerintensive@backhausdance.org or DVD via snail mail to Backhausdance, P.O. Box 5890, Orange, CA 92863.

XI. Single Class & Day Rates
Single class and day rates are available at the door. Please RSVP to summerintensive@backhausdance.org to confirm availability prior to arriving.
Single Class: $25/class
Day Rate: $90/day
Choose from the following classes:
9:30am - 10:30am Elective (Pilates, Yoga, Floor Barre, Somatics, etc.)
10:30am - Noon Technique Class #1
1:00pm - 2:30pm Technique Class #2
2:30pm - 3:30pm Partnering or Composition
