Backhausdance Summer Intensives provide an array of diverse training programs for aspiring artists and working professionals. Held in the state-of-the-art dance facilities on the campus of Chapman University, the intensives support the technical growth and artistic development of the contemporary dancer. Participants have the unique opportunity to study with Artistic Director Jennifer Backhaus, Backhausdance current and former company members, and a diverse roster of esteemed educators and choreographers from around the world. Intensive participants are invited to perform in a fully-produced concert alongside the professional company at the end of the program.

Chaperoned housing options are available for participants of all ages at the newly renovated Ayres Hotel Orange.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY

 

Pre-Professional and Adv/Pro participants of the 2017 Backhausdance Summer Intensives will learn, rehearse, and ultimately, perform in a fully-produced showing of company repertory on Saturday, August 5 at the Musco Center for the Arts.*

* Performing participants must be present July 31 - August 4. Students participating in the two and three-week programs are guaranteed significant performance roles. Single week participants (7/31 - 8/4) may be invited to perform in smaller roles or site-specific installations held prior to curtain.

Designed for serious and art-minded dancers working at an intermediate to advanced level, the Pre-Professional Division provides an in-depth experience for dancers to explore the vast world of contemporary dance. Emphasis is placed on artistry, risk-taking and problem-solving as dancers develop the necessary skills to make the challenging leap from studio dancer to college or professional.

Geared toward advanced, collegiate and professional dancers, the Advanced/Professional Division provides rigorous training in various disciplines with an emphasis on the unique style of Backhausdance. Curriculum is designed to cultivate strong, technical dancers with the skills necessary to achieve their full artistic potential and navigate the professional dance world.

Backhausdance provides chaperoned housing options for participants of all ages at the Ayres Hotel Orange. Just 2 miles from the Chapman University Partridge Dance Center, the brand new Ayres Hotel offers single to quad occupancy standard studio suites at an affordable rate.

The Ayres Hotel Orange is located walking distance from Starbucks, Wendy's, Quizno's and The Outlets of Orange with more than 120 shops, restaurants and entertainment.

Each room is equipped with two double beds, a small in-room refrigerator and microwave. Housing reservations include participation in scheduled evening activities during your stay.

HOW TO REGISTER

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN. LIMITED SPACE AVAILABLE.

The program is geared toward dancers training at an advanced/professional level. Backhausdance does not require an audition for admission. Auditions are for scholarship consideration only.

STEP 1:

 

Register.

Submit a non-refundable deposit ($300)* or full tuition payment (includes a $300 non-refundable deposit).* A confirmation email will be sent within 72 hours of receipt of payment.

STEP 2:

 

Submit balance payment.

Tuition balances* must be received no later than July 1, 2017 to guarantee participation.
*Earlybird Discount: Pay tuition in full by February 28 and save 10%

STEP 3:

 

Receive electronic info packet.

An electronic packet with additional details pertaining to the classes, faculty biographies, recommended attire, evening activities and performances will be sent no later than June 1, 2017.

 
 

*Due to limited enrollment and high demand, tuition refunds after July 1, 2017 will not be considered. In the case of extreme injury or illness, a refund on the tuition balance may be requested with the submission of a signed notification of injury or illness from a physician. The $300 deposit payment is non-refundable.
