MATTHEW HARVEY

Matthew Harvey is a dance teacher, choreographer, and performer from Allentown, PA. He received his early dance training at Repertory Dance Theatre, under the direction of Jennifer Haltzman Tracy and Trinette Singleton. After attending summer dance intensives at Joffrey Ballet School and Chautauqua Institute, Matthew began his professional performance career as a trainee with Charlotte Ballet. In 2007, he joined Hernan Justo’s Ballet Greenville (formerly Carolina Ballet Theatre) as a principal dancer and choreographer. He has performed as a guest artist with companies, schools, and universities across the north and southeast regions of the United States, and in various cities in Uruguay. During his performance career, Matthew has been a featured or Principal dancer in classical ballets like Snow White, Nutcracker, Carmen, and Hunchback of Notre Damme and contemporary ballets such as Map by Alonzo King and Beatle Juice by Dwight Rhoden. In 2017, Matthew became an instructor of dance at Colorado State University teaching ballet, jazz, and modern techniques. In addition to movement classes Matthew has been a primary instructor for Understanding Dance, the CSU Dance Program’s Liberal Arts lecture course serving non-majors. Matthew has been choreographing works since 2006, blending elements of concert and social dance forms to create dynamic music visualizations. Matthew’s choreography employs a minimalist approach to storytelling accompanied by music from artists such as Gorillaz, Queens of the Stone Age, Victor Wooten, Zoe Keating, and Frédéric Chopin. His works have been performed by conservatory studios, Universities, professional companies, and Youth America Grand Prix competitors.
