Audition FAQ

What are you looking for in a dancer?
We are looking for strong technical dancers who are well-versed in improvisation, partnering, ballet and modern movement. Dancers should possess sound individual artistry and enjoy a collaborative ensemble environment. Currently, there are open positions for full performing company members of all genders.

What is the audition like?
Audition will include a contemporary ballet barre, company repertory and improvisation. Company repertory and improvisation will be performed in small groups. Callbacks are possible, but not always necessary. Called back dancers may be invited to attend company rehearsal.

Do I have to register for the audition?
You do not have to pre-register for the audition, but it is strongly recommended.

Do you accept video auditions?
Video auditions will be considered for applicants unable to attend a live audition. Video submissions must be received before June 2. Scroll up for details.

What do I need to bring with me?
You should bring a headshot or dance photo, and a current resume with performance and training information. We recommend ballet shoes, socks and/or bare feet for the audition.

What is the contract and rehearsal schedule like?
The upcoming contract with Backhausdance will be from September through May. Paid rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals are held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:30am to 1:00pm in Orange County.
